Assassins Creed 3

Click to Watch the TV Spot

Happy New Year everybody! So many things happened again this year and it's always good to look back at what you actually accomplished and so I wanted to share this - click the link above to see the spot. It was a TV spot that I was lucky enough to work on. With our creative team we pitched a number of ideas for TV spots and this one hit the mark. I then storyboarded the spot under the Art Director and we then worked with DIGIC Pictures who animated the final spot (although no sea battle and fight with the general). They did an amazing job as always and the project was a blast to work on. More to follow in 2013!

Sacramento Kings Knight

A recent project I worked on was to design and create a turnaround for a knight that would be created in 3D, but not just any knight - the Sacramento Kings Knight. First image is the final render that was created and below is my design sketch plus the turnaround.

Merchant of Venus

Over a year ago now I was asked to do a series of characters for a board game called Merchant of Venus. The thrill was that the Art Director really liked my work and trusted me to design all of the characters for the game when they usually have several artists work on such projects. The twist: I had a month to concept and illustrate 20 characters, aliens and robots next to my full time job. I had a blast doing this project and even though I was forced execute them without any real explorations I'm pretty happy with what gushed out of my gut instinct at the time. One of the characters is a virus that takes over it's host - his portrait is a petri dish.

Part 2 of the story is that once I completed all of the work (with additional character thumbnails) I received the news that the game was tied up in legal disputes and might never be published and due to the NDA I would never be able to show the work...gah. Luckily they were able to resolve them eventually - and now, after such a long time I am happy to announce that it is out and finally, finally I can share it with you.

Thanks for looking.

Movie Project

I was lucky enough to work on an undisclosed movie project recently. The task was to concept and sketch several poster ideas for a movie that is being pitched. The director I worked with is experienced to say the least and I have much faith in this. It was a blast to work on and I hope to do more in the future.
Now the big question - can you guess what the movie is about?

Portrait of an Alien

Portrait of an alien Species featured in a project that I am currently working on.
Again I felt I learned a lot doing this piece as I have never really done portraits.
More to come.

Warhammer

For those who don't know what it is, Warhammer 40,000 is a popular tabletop miniature game set in the distant future. As a kid growing up I loved this game as it has an extensive world with so many great designs as well as mythical and alien characters. So it was a joy to actually get to illustrate a few pieces for one of their rule-books. All pieces were describing locations, hence the lack of figures and action.
More to follow.

How Long

How long do you think it's been frozen in the ice?
A piece in the vein of one of my fav movies - The Thing (no, not the recent remake).
I have just always been fascinated by the excitement of discovering something, something otherworldly, something beyond our imagination, something preferably deadly.

Future Females

After a long absence due to extreme workload I will be posting more frequently. Most of the work can unfortunately still not be shown, but I will continue to do more personal work. Here are a few female character explorations. The first a futuristic queen and then the punk engineer.

Mech Urban Battle

Here my latest illustration in the Mech series. Having fun with scale and putting some images from mind to pixel.
In other news project J.S.H is now complete and went live on the 11/08/2011.
Juliana is my second child next to Alexander or A.S.H. as I referred to him two years ago and they both give me motivation and inspiration every day.

Dragon Queen

Indeed it has been long since my last post. A larger project consumed every minute of my time for a month but unfortunately I cannot show it until it is released a few months from now. But here is an illustration that I had been working on in my spare time.

Something Not Right

A character from my sketchbook I decided to render out. Once in a while I'll see a homeless person on the street that will creep me out because you will know... something just isn't right about that one.

Is it snowing already

Here is the latest I have been working on. As always I keep pushing myself to create mood and have a story within. Below is a detail shot. Enjoy

The Rise

My latest piece was really a challenge. It all started with a simple sketch for a project. They ended up wanting me to execute another idea (the result you can see a few posts earlier), but I somehow kept looking back to that original idea. My good friend Tyler told me to just paint that one for myself and I decided to dive into it. Feeling the need to challenge myself I expanded the original sketch and really tried to push my own abilities.

The mood was key for me and really a journey to complete. Along the way I feel I learned a lot and won some battles while losing others.

As for the theme. Perhaps I have already exclaimed my love for H.P. Lovecraft yet I always felt so strange that there was so little really good artwork depicting his chilling tales or ancient gods. Thus, I named this piece the Rise - as in the rise of the old, resurfacing of the unknown, an ancient cult bringing forth Cthulhu from his long sleep in the depth of the ocean.
